Nowadays, hair shampoos come in a wide range, from popular brands priced at a few thousand dong to high-end products costing millions. Their advantages include abundant lather, leaving the hair fresh, smooth, and pleasantly scented, providing a diverse range for consumers to choose from. Alongside these features are advertisements claiming “extracted from natural ingredients, nourishing hair from root to tip…” but in reality, they are composed entirely of synthetic chemicals, devoid of any natural components.
To produce chemical shampoos, manufacturers combine 15 to 16 different chemicals to create a mixture with a strong, unpleasant odor. Subsequently, fragrance is added to mask the smell. Chemical shampoos do not use preservatives as there are hardly any living bacteria in this environment.
Chemical shampoos meet consumer demands: smooth, shiny, and fragrant hair. The secret lies in the inclusion of a substance called dimethicone 60,000cps (Belsil DM 60,000), colloquially known as a type of silicone. It coats every hair strand, unbeknownst to the user, and the more it is used, the more one tends to like it. Over time, the silicone layer thickens, making the hair strands heavy, weakening them, and leading to hair loss. Naturally, it does not provide any nourishment that the hair requires.
Additionally, there are chemical shampoos in the market that contain natural herbal ingredients but come at a high cost. In formulating these shampoos, preservatives must be added. Comparing the formulas of the two types of shampoos reveals not much difference.
